Where & When?
AT, Marchegg, St.Johannes Monastery, 20.-22.03.2015
The Jump4Rivers Training was organized together with YTAE, the youth group of WWF Austria. It was all about rivers and how to get active to protect them – a weekend of networking and planning of a Big Jump Challenge project.
The participants found out about the Big Jump Challenge, its background – the EU Water Framework Directive – and how to be part of the action.
15 young people from Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic were motivated to plan their own river protection action and they came up with some great ideas at local rivers in Bratislava, Ostrava, Graz and other places. At the same time we got to know the beautiful floodplains of the WWF reserve in Marchegg (including storks and a marvelous sunset).
The highlight of the training was the jump into the Morava on March 22, the was World Water Day. We jumped into the (very cold!) river under the motto “Rivers know no borders” in order to raise awareness for the political border issues that make a renaturalization of the Morava, which was straightened in the 1970s, impossible.
NÖN, a local Austrian newspaper, reported about our jump.
